Why there is no mirror here
Most studios have one on the long wall. We have windows there.
When we first saw the room under the roof, the long wall was empty. The landlord asked whether mirrors should go there. We said no, and that was the first decision for Blau.
A mirror invites you to check your pose from the outside: does it look right? Does it look like the person next to me? After an hour you know a lot about your reflection and little about how your back feels.
Without a mirror the only way is inwards. Where does your foot press into the mat, where does the breath go? It feels strange at first. After a few classes you feel more and compare less.
So that nothing goes wrong anyway, we walk around the room and correct with our hands if you want. If you'd rather not be touched, put a block at the edge of your mat. Then we say it in words.
And where do you look instead? Out of the window. Over the roofs to the slag heap and up into the sky. That is where the name comes from: blau is German for blue.
Blau is a concept. The studio, the people and the texts are made up.
